A Fitting Occasion to make some tags!

I haven't been in my stamp room stamping much because there were no classes recently.  I should have been down there preparing for the classes coming up but I guess I love excitment and would rather wait to create at the last minute!  I really missed being down there.  My youngest son turned 6 this past weekend and we had a full day of kids bowling party and family party in the evening.  Dressing up the loot bags a little bit was a wonderful excuse to get down into my stamp room.  It really took very little time because I just copied the idea from the catalogue.  I used the Fitting Occasion Stamp set and picked some bright colours.  Pacific Point and
Daffodi Delight seemed perfect. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 I'm sure I'll have more pictures to share soon because I'm going to spend today in the craft cave.  I can't wait!

Vintage techniques

I had great fun preparing for my technique class earlier this week.  Vintage style cards are not my normal style at all but I LOVE seeing them when I look online or when I receive swaps.  So, I decided it was time to have a class focusing on vintage so that I could force myself  out of my normal comfort zone.

This card was my favourite.  It's hard to see but there is some subtle shimmer on the front piece using the faux mother of pearl technique.  So fun!

Back to the land of the living

I'm happy to say that I am feeling much better. I can go on with my daily routine without feeling like I"m dying. I"m very happy about that. However, I have a very croaky voice and a lingering cough. No complaints though...I"ll take that over the achy, can't move feeling anytime.

Last night we had a Team S.T.I.C meeting. We had a fun card swap and here are everyone's creations. Please take your time looking at the photos. Emboss resist twist

Here's a card using the emboss resist technique. I'm using Inspired by Nature heat embossed with white embossing powder. Then brayered layers of colour: cherry cobbler, pumpkin pie, daffodil delight, marina mist. The embossed portion resists the colour to give this stunning effect. The embosslit beautiful wings die was used to finish off with vellum butterflies stuck down with the two way glue pen.

A twist on the traditional emboss resist technique is a technique called emerging colour. Here's a card with the emerging colour technique. Can you guess how it was done? First stamp the background with a small solid image stamp in various colours. Then stamp on top with versamark in a larger solid image stamp then heat emboss in clear. Finally cover with a darker ink with the brayer. Wipe off the embossed portion with a moist kleenex.

The colours I used here are melon mambo, tempting turquoise, pumpkin pie. I think the cute tempting turquoise button in the middle totally makes the card! I love a little card candy.

Give the emerging colour technique a try. Then try it using some designer series paper. Cool huh?

So how long does the new catalogue have to be out before the new colours aren't new anymore? I'll still probably be calling the new colours new for the whole year!

I had to make a thank you gift card holder for a male friend. (you know how hard it is for me to make masculine looking projects...) I unwrapped the shrink wrap from my cajun craze ink pad and went crazy with the stamps from the circle circus set. The other colours I used were the marina mist and crumb cake. I like this easy gift card holder. All you need is Stampin' Up's open ended envelope.

Presto!

Here's one of the products available with the release of the summer mini on May 1st. It is called Presto paper. It's white paper with a design embedded in the paper. It kind of works like emboss resist except that you don't have to emboss anything. You just add the colour via brayer, aqua painter etc and presto: the pattern appears more defined. I added soft suede ink direct to paper (basically I rubbed the ink pad all over the paper and it gave a really cool vintage look. I added some pictures and some punched out stamped images and voila, a complete 12X12 scrapbook page. (ignore the paper towel pieces: I tried to cover up any identifying names in my journalling just for safety)
