Cute gift!

A couple of weeks ago I did a card party for a group of girls that love to get together and chat and catch up.  Instead of going out to a restaurant, they have me come over and I bring all the card supplies and they make cards.  It's a great evening.  This time they were celebrating Cristina's birthday.

 

So, she's now received her shipment of stampin' supplies and she wanted to make a thank you gift for her friends.  She bought them all little dazzling details and look what she made!

 

 

I'm so impressed!  What a great idea and so thoughtful!  Love it! Mr. UPS Man: "REALLY?"

I had e-mailed Kevin last night when he was out, mourning that I was still awake at 11:00 pm working on the teacher gifts. I really thought I would've been much faster completing everything but somehow I got embellishing and the time just flew away on me. Anyway, he e-mailed back that he needed several gifts for the teachers in his school. Several?? I had planned to make something for the principal but that was just one person. No worries. I had the morning to myself today in which I had planned to make the one gift...just make a few more...no problem. Now let me ask you. If you saw these on someone's porch,

Wouldn't you think twice about putting these on top of them?

I just about had a heart attack when I opened the door to my porch in order to do the second coat of glaze and saw my tiles peeking out from under the boxes. If any of them were broken, I think I might have cried. Fortunately none were broken so no harm done but honestly, I couldn't understand why the UPS man would do this. My first thought was "maybe these coasters looked so ugly that he thought it was garbage"...you know, like a piece of crumpled paper, so no harm piling boxes on top. For obvious reasons I couldn't accept this answer. I know you can't see it very well in the picture but I had used two shades of purple on the flower: perfect plum and wisteria wonder (a new in colour!) and I had even shaded the leaves in both pear pizzazz and certainly celery on top of that I am using the beautiful Because I Care stamp set. There is no way that these beautiful tiles could be mistaken as garbage! I then started laughing to myself because the idea came to me that perhaps the UPS man thought I had designed and created a beautiful platform for him to place my precious Stampin' Up! cargo. No more putting those boxes on the common ground. Oh no, we need to have a platform made of individually stamped and coloured tiles. I am killing myself laughing about this to myself. Of course, perhaps the UPS man just didn't think anything at all which is probably the case. Well, that's my story for today. So, the moral of the story is: Don't leave your tiles to dry on the porch if you're expecting a delivery from the UPS man.

Conference highs

A quick post before I hit the sack. I'm getting picked up at 6am tommorrow to head out to Hamilton for the Stampin' Up! regional conference. It'll be my first time at a regional conference or any kind of Stampin' Up! conference for that matter. It's like a first date. I'm a little nervous. Will people think my swaps are too plain? Will I look too excited when I see Shelli Gardner? Will I not be dressed appropriately? (at a team meeting someone showed off their decor elements poncho and crazy pants they had made and worn to convension) Am I supposed to dress using designer series paper? Anyway, I think I will wear a real red t shirt and jeans.

I'm already on a conference high because I was on a full day conference for my occupational therapy professional association. I went not expecting much. I was wrong! The keynote, introductory speaker was Heather Moyse. She was the gold medal bobsleigh pusher from the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. Did you know she is an occupational therapist? I have something in common with a gold medal bobsledder! Her talk was truly inspirational and reminded me that challenges in life can later become a significant factor in great success. She passed around her medal for us to see and touch but sadly it never made it to my table. I did make a point of taking a quick photo:

Today was a good learning day. I'm looking forward to a great stamping day tommorrow AND tommorrow is the day hubby is getting his truck so he will be very happy too!

more presto paper

Here's an easy card using the new presto paper from the summer mini catalogue. I think presto paper is like those choose your own adventure books I used to read as a kid. Instead of choose your own adventure, it's just choose your own colour dsp. This time I choose regal rose and used my brayer to bring out the gorgeous pattern. The pattern was so lovely I wanted to keep to motif simple so as not to distract from the great background. The Defining letters and define your life stamp set seemed good to me. Round the corners with the corner rounder punch and tie a simple 1/4" grosgrain ribbon and we're done. Talk about fast!
