It's the time of year for graduations!
This year we had a grade 8 graduate in our household!
I can't believe my baby is going to high school in the fall.
Well, Nathaniel sure had a strange couple of years with pandemic style school but I am super pleased because this school year was EXCELLENT for him despite the online learning.
Early in the school year Nathaniel made the decision to go to virtual school as he didn't feel safe at in person school. Little did I know it would be the best decision since the in person kids had to flip back and forth so many times from in person to virtual anyway.
Nathaniel had the consistency of the same teacher and same class and virtual platform routine all year long and his teacher did an EXCEPTIONAL job teaching the kids online. She focused on academics and the social aspect which is pretty hard online.
I could see every day that Nathaniel was engaged in the learning and he was so cute and independent with all his routines and homework.
Even though there's no big school graduation, I still felt it was important to mark the milestone with a little fanfare.
A friend in the neighborhood had a cap and gown we were able to borrow to take a few photos
Then I asked Nathaniel if he had a few close friends he wanted to invite over for a backyard visit.
We ordered pizza, custom cookies and I ordered a photo ice cream cake.
I didn't have much time to do as much decorating and papercrafting as I wanted but a few little things like designer paper wrapped pop bottles and mini curvy keepsake boxes and of course a card helped allow a little bit of a personal and special loving touch to the celebration.
Here's some photos!
I'll paste the supply list for this card below
Yay for those Suit & Tie Dies!
After the friends went home, we settled into the family room to watch the prerecorded virtual graduation ceremony.
When my oldest son out in Ottawa heard we were watching, he asked to join in virtually to watch too so we were able to screen share over zoom so he could celebrate as well.
Boy...this mama heart was sooooo happy to have the family "together" celebrating the "baby".
Even though I often complain about how I am technically challenged and how I don't like technology, I am so grateful that the technology allowed us to still be together (sort of) and celebrate.
This mama was also very proud of the baby for persevereing through virtual school and he even graduated with honours and the Math and Geography awards.
Way to go baby Nathaniel! (he doesn't like it when I call him the baby but I think he will never read this blog post so....)
We have a little drive by at the school tonight so the celebration continues!
Thanks for dropping in!
