I can't remember if I shared that I've been having a lot of fun learning French. In case you think this is a sudden obsession, it's not.
I've always loved the French language since my very first french class in grade 4.
I took French all the way through my elementary and high school years right until grade 13. In fact I did my grade 13 French credit in some kind of one month intensive in Switzerland. Yes. It was very cool. No, it wasn't very intensive because we only had class in the morning but not on Wednesdays since it was field trip day. However, I loved it and it gave me confidence that I could converse in French.
I didn't take any French in university and then got busy with work and family and then stamping but I always dreamed that one day I would return to the language and become bilingual.
January 2019 I took the leap and enrolled myself for French classes at Alliance Francaise. It was great fun! However, it became apparent that becoming bilingual was not as easy as I thought!
My old brain can't remember all the grammer rules and different tenses.
Nonetheless I think I am still learning new things. For example I learned this fun word that I used in the title of this blog post "Chouette" Doesn't that word just sound marvelous??? It's pronounced like Shoe-ette
I think it means "cool" You know how when you experience something new you might say "that's cool" The french would I think would say "chouette"
Of course I could be mistaken since I decided this was the translation based mostly on watching a french kids tv cartoon called Le Petit Nicolas where this word seems to come up regularly.
Anyway, even though there's lots I can't remember, I still can't help it! I still love French! I love hearing the language, and trying to speak the language.
So, my obsession that was dormant for some time has now been awakened again!
I've tried French classes at a private french school, french lessons with a private french tutor over the internet, watching many episodes of a cute kids TV show called Le Petit Nicolas and my latest adventure is attending a Meetup group where all levels of French speakers are welcome to attend for the purpose of talking French.
My friend Linda found this group. She is a French immersion teacher and French is her second language. She went last month and had fun so I asked if I could join in this month.
I had a blast! It's so interesting meeting new people and chatting in French and I felt kind of proud that I fit in. My French was decent enough to understand most of the conversation and I even tried speaking with the others as well.
So fun!!
I had to take a photo of our eclectic french speaking group!
Unfortunately I won't be able to attend next month since I'll be off cruising the Greek Isles with Stampin' Up! (where I will be searching the ship for the French demonstrators!) but hopefully I can squeeze it in in August!
Just thought I'd share a little of the fun in my life right now! I hope you have a fun weekend!
