I can't believe it!

After three years of being unable to attend the incentive trip it looks like I may actually make it this year!

I decided to take advantage of the gifted airfare to go early and meet a girlfriend and visit and work in Paris.

I can't believe that as I write this blog post I am in Paris!

I have so many thoughts to share but I'll just share photos today!

I met my friend Lee-Ann in London and we saw a bit of London then took a train straight to Paris.

Here's some London pictures!

What's fun about travelling with Lee-Ann is that since we were university roommates we've definitely gone beyond the superficial friendship stage.  We can say things as they are and we still love each other.

We also have similar travel styles: namely see most important touristy things but not necessary to do all (often expensive and time consuming) options.

From the airport we took the underground (subway) to the city

Go to Kings Cross station and check out the platform 9 3/4 (from the Harry Potter movie)
example of touristy style: seeing the sign was enough...no need to line up for 45 to stand right in front of it).  This is why my photo has a random man there.  LOL
Visit London Bridge and stand on bridge.

Visit Big Ben (we think this is big ben but I am not 100% sure)

Westminster Abbey where royalty get married.
We had a lot of laughing around our efforts to take selfie photos.  I often look like I'm grimacing because it's a bit stressful to take photo while trying to position ourselves with appropriate backdrop and not drop the phone!

Next stop: Paris!

It was a gorgeous warm and sunny day so we jammed in as much as we could!

Have I mentioned I love eating?  Besides visiting tourist attractions, it was important for me (and Lee-Ann) to eat our way through Paris

Morning snack: gelato with macaron

Sacre coeur church.  Once again, sufficient to take pictures and see outside.  No need to line up to see inside.

L'arc de Triomphe which was much more magnificent in real life.
(no need to pay to go to the top and see the view)

Place de La Concorde. (I learned on our boat tour this is where Marie Antoinette was beheaded)

Getting ready to board the boat for our Seine river tour

Lunch at an outdoor cafe.
As you may know I love speaking and hearing the French language.  It's super disappointing that most wait staff or service staff I have been interacting with switch to English as soon as I start talking to them in French.  what is that about?
I of course continue in French.  I am determined!
At this lunch place I finally came right out and asked the waiter why he responds to me in English when I speak to him in French?  Was my French so bad? He apologized and said that I didn't have bad French but maybe he had bad English?  I took from this that maybe he wanted to practice his English?
Anyway, that whole piece of the conversation happened in French so I was happy! :-)
I suppose a lot of tourists speak English so the service staff are probably used to speaking English to the tourists.

The iconic Eiffel Tower.  A perfect view from our boat tour (no need to pay or line up to ride the elevator inside)

The day finished off with Fresh Crepes!

And that's a wrap of our adventures so far!
