A family Vacation Recap

Woah!  I can't believe it's the end of January already!

I kept meaning to share a little recap of our family vacation last month but the days flew by.

I hope you don't mind me sharing this late, but hopefully still entertaining post of our vacation.

Sometime in October I decided to suggest a family vacation over the Christmas break.

It's hard when the kids get older because they don't necessarily want to spend their free time with family when they could be out with friends.

With my husband being a school principal and one kid in university, and now me with a full time job, I realized the only common vacation time was over the Christmas break.  I decided to seize the opportunity and basically beg the family to vacation together.

I used a Disney Cruise as the dangling carrot.

Well...you guys could stay home and hang out with your friends at clubs or go skiing or....you could hang out with your old parents on a cruise to the Bahamas.

The children reluctantly agreed. (We will not get into a discussion here about whether I have raised entitled, spoiled children who need a full day to ponder whether it is worth their time to go on an all inclusive Disney cruise paid by their parents.) There was no need to convince Kevin...he was practically jumping for joy.

Two days before the ship departure from Miami and one day before our Southwest flight from Buffalo was to depart, we learned that our flight was cancelled.

A family meeting was held with two options given:

drive to Florida in an attempt to still make it to the cruise on time

or

Cancel the cruise, hope for some insurance money and do a staycation at home.

(We will not get into a discussion here about how I have raised entitled spoiled children who go into panic about the very thought of us all sitting in a car together to drive for over 24 hours to go to an all inclusive Disney cruise paid by their parents)

In the end, we decided to drive. Fortunately our bags were already packed and Kevin managed to create a driving route and book a hotel in Tennessee and off we went!

Our family is not a road tripping type of family.

There were far too many stretch stops and bathroom stops and general I can't stand sitting in this car stops.

We did manage to discover a bubble tea shop in Atlanta Georgia which revived some spirits and we made it to Tennessee to sleep and then on the next day to Miami.

We kept checking our Disney app which counted down the hours until cruise day.

I was exceedingly happy to finally make it to the port with the family.

The cruise did not disappoint!

Disney customer service was in fine form and I loved the extra special touches and I loved the food!  (I love eating)

We might not be a road tripping family but before the pandemic we were definitely a Disney family.

I made sure to bring along my mickey ears and Kevin and I wore our series of matching Disney shirts.

I had bought the kids matching shirts for the cruise but two of them "forgot" to pack them

(we will not go into a discussion here on how I may have raised entitled, spoiled children who think wearing matching family shirts on an all inclusive Disney cruise paid by their parents is a fate worse than death)

All in all we had a great time and my goal of creating family memories and spending time together was achieved.

After the cruise we had to drive the whole 30 hours back home and it was slightly easier than the way down except that the youngest was sick and there were some arguments with the children around who would be sitting near the sick kid.  One child who shall remain unnamed almost got left at a gas station because of a refusal to sit in the middle next to the sick child.

(we will not get into a discussion here...well...you get the idea)

Life is an adventure!

Thanks for being a part of it with me!
