Hello! I hope you all had a good weekend. I had quite an exciting weekend. Things were in a bit of a flurry because of my oldest son moving out to start his first co-op job in Ottawa.
We were all very excited at the end of April when he found out he was being offered a job. Normally for his field of study (occupational health and safety) he was told that securing a co-op job was not difficult as there is usually a need for workers in this area. This was part of the reason that he chose this program and also why he was very studious in the first year of university because he wanted to gain entrance into the co-op stream of the program.
At the start of his second year, he was admitted to the coop stream of the program and around November started the job hunting process.
Unfortunately with the pandemic, the co-op job opportunities were not as plentiful as usual. Still, he had several interviews and in the end received an offer for a company that had a manufacturing plant in Ottawa.
Although Ethan had moved out to student residence in first year university (and I cried a bucket load of tears) he returned when the pandemic hit and has been home for the past year.
Although he is an adult and is fully capable of managing his own move, my maternal instincts couldn't help but get involved!!
I mean he was trying to finish his final exams and now he had to find a place to live in Ottawa. Poor kid! (okay I know it sounds so silly. )
With his permission, I started researching rentals in Ottawa.
I'll admit my May class cards probably would have been designed earlier if I hadn't been consumed with google searching, emailing potential landlords, watching virtual tours and the such.
We finally landed on what I thought was a perfect basement apartment.
Everyone in the family was excited for him and on Friday we ordered take out, a cake and of course I made a card for the family to sign.
Isn't this a fun card? It's a Z-fold type of card. I decided to use the Well suited bundle (supply list below)
I wasn't really happy about the designs of the paper I chose to put together but I thought the card was fun nonetheless.
I felt like this was a big milestone for him so I didn't want to miss congratulating him and sending him off with our well wishes and of course I wanted him to remember that we loved him!
So in addition to the card, I ordered an ice cream cake with a family photo on it.
I think our youngest...little Nathaniel (who's not little anymore but I still call him that) was feeling sad about his big brother leaving. We suggested that he was welcome to come with us to Ottawa to help move Ethan in and say good bye but he declined due to the long car ride. I suppose that means he was sad but not THAT sad. :-)
Here's a few more photos. It was a busy weekend moving Ethan into his new place but I'm happy that he seems to be settling in. The place he's living at is just steps away from some fun trendy stores and restaurants and grocery store. If things ever open up again, I am definitely going to visit him and browse the cute shops!
This morning I felt like I could finally concentrate enough to finish designing some cards. It's been an emotional and busy few weeks.
Now maybe I can really focus on the excitement of a new annual catalogue launching tomorrow!
Thanks for dropping in!
